BMW and Mercedes are continuing to work on joint projects, CAR can reveal. The two premium brands reckon working together might just stave off the threat of the credit crunch, collapsing car sales in key markets and the uncertainty wobbling the very foundations of the motor industry. But the BMW-Merc collaboration is proving difficult, according to executives in Germany contacted by CAR.

Thirty years on from the Frankfurt show reveal of the Sport Quattro, the homologation model that spawned Audi’s dominant World Rally cars, VW’s premium brand is unveiling the Sport Quattro concept, take three. Three years ago, Audi showed the Quattro concept (take two), a beautiful, modernist update of the 1980s icon.
Volkswagen AG will acquire a 90 percent stake in Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A., VW said Tuesday. The Giugiaro family will retain 10 percent in the 42-year-old automotive styling company that is famous for designing cars such as the first-generation Volkswagen Golf. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said Italdesign will make an important contribution to the automaker's 2018 global growth strategy.
